A flying coaster with a snowman in the middle
The Giant Ski Jump is a mechanical Flying Coaster - the round sort of ride where your car travels an undulating circular track, climbing the raised sections and dropping over the other side rather than sitting flat. Six enclosed cars ride the track, built like sleighs with painted snow along their edges, and the up-and-over motion is where the ski jump name comes from.
It gives a fair more movement than a children's roundabout without turning into a white-knuckle ride. Children ride it, and so do the adults with them, and the adults tend to come off grinning as well.
The winter theme is proper rather than a sticker job. There is a top-hatted snowman stood in the centre, winter sports artwork on the panels, an illuminated SKI JUMP sign and snow-covered fencing right round the perimeter, which makes it a natural centrepiece for a Christmas event or winter wonderland. It pulls a queue at a summer corporate family day just the same, and it sits happily between the Waltzer and the Runaway Train in a mixed line-up.
