Coconut shy stall under its red and white striped canopy, with coconuts balanced on stands behind the striped counter

Coconut Shy

Hire from £295.

The oldest job on the row

The coconut shy is about as old as fairgrounds get, and it has not changed much because it does not need to. Real coconuts sit balanced on stands, you are handed wooden balls, and you throw until one comes off clean. Everyone recognises it on sight, and everyone already knows how to play it.

Ours runs under the red and white striped canopy, which gives the stall its look wherever it stands - a field, a showground, a town square or indoors on hard standing. The stand design means it is not tied to grass, so it works at venues the traditional version would not.

One of our team sets it up, runs it and packs it down. Winners get novelty sweets, and if you want the coconuts themselves as prizes - which is the traditional way - they can be bought from us before the event in batches of 50 for £40.

It is the stall that belongs at the front of the row. Put it beside the Hook-a-Duck and the Grand Carnival stalls and the fair starts to look like a fair.

The Coconut Shy at Your Event

  • Real Coconuts

Genuine coconuts balanced on stands, knocked clean off to win. The real thing, not a plastic stand-in, which is most of why the stall still works.

  • Striped Fairground Canopy

The stall runs under its red and white striped canopy with a striped counter along the front, giving it the proper fairground look indoors or out.

  • Any Surface

The stand design works indoors or outdoors, on grass or hard standing, so the stall is not tied to a field the way some traditional kit is.

  • Staffed Throughout

One of our team sets the stall up, runs it and packs it down, handing out prizes and keeping the throwing line in order.

  • Prizes Included

Winners get novelty sweets as standard. Premium prizes run from £1.50 plus VAT each, and coconut prizes can be bought in batches of 50 for £40 before the event.

  • £5m Public Liability

Five million pounds of public liability insurance as standard, with risk assessments and method statements for your organiser or venue before the event.

Planning the hire

Tell us the event date, postcode, expected numbers and whether it is indoors or out, and we will check the practical details before quoting.

Hire starts at £295. Delivery charges and minimum order values can apply depending on location, and a row of stalls on one delivery prices together more cheaply than each hiring alone.

It goes out to everything this site is about - village fetes, school fairs, works family days, country shows and Christmas markets, where an indoor-capable stall earns its keep. If you are building a full fair, tell us what else you have in mind and we will shape the row around it.

The stall that pulls a crowd

There is a reason the coconut shy has outlasted nearly everything else on the row. The throw is harder than it looks, the winners are loud, and the next person in the queue is already convinced they can do better. Around a fair it does the job a stall is there to do - it holds people between goes on the Dodgems and keeps the smaller children spending their money while the older ones queue for the Waltzer.

We have been running stalls like this from our Rotherham warehouse since 1999, and the kit is all ours - it arrives on our own van with our own staff, and there is no third party between you and the stall on the day.

Common Questions

How much does coconut shy hire cost?

Hire starts at £295. The delivered total depends on the postcode, duration, staffing hours and whether it forms part of a row of stalls or a larger funfair package, which is priced together.

Are the coconuts real?

Yes - real coconuts balanced on stands, knocked off clean to win. Winners get novelty sweets as standard, and the coconuts themselves can be bought as prizes in batches of 50 for £40 before the event.

Does the stall need grass?

No. The stand design works indoors or outdoors, on grass or hard standing, so the stall goes to town squares, halls and other venues a traditional version would struggle with.

Is the stall staffed?

Yes. One of our team sets it up, runs it for the event and packs it down, handing out prizes and keeping the throwing line in order.

Can it join a row of other stalls?

That is where it works best. It pairs naturally with the Hook-a-Duck and the Grand Carnival stalls, and a row of stalls on one delivery prices together more cheaply than each hiring alone.
