If you played a Donkey Derby down the seaside as a kid, you already know the trick here: fire your balls at the target board, land them where the points are and watch your reindeer jog up the light strip. Aim beats luck on this one - the holes are worth different amounts, and there's nothing to fetch between rounds because the balls find their own way back.

Overhead, the curved backboard carries Santa's sleigh gliding over a snowy village, printed down the lanes as SPRINT, DASH and RUN. Each player reads their progress off their own row of lights, and the speakers call the race, which is what usually gathers the crowd to stand behind the two racers.

One cabinet = two players against each other. Bring the mate cabinet along and it becomes a four-wide heat. Outside December the same cabinet rewraps for carnival and speedway events, so if the race appeals for a summer date, just say.

People ask for this one as a Donkey Derby hire or a Kentucky Derby game - it's the ancestor we mean, in a Father Christmas coat.

    Balls fired up the lane land in point-scoring holes that push each reindeer a different distance, and the return slope hands them straight back for the next throw.

    The lane markings and the sleigh-and-snow-village backboard give the cabinet its festive look, and both are visible to the players and to spectators behind them.

  • Built-In LED and PA

    Score lights per player and race-call speakers are part of the cabinet itself, so there's no separate rig to plan for on the day.

  • Four-Player Option

    Two racers fit each cabinet. Add the twin and we rig them next to each other for a four-wide heat - priced as its own line when you ask.

    Your artwork can go on the cabinet's graphics panels, which is a fair upgrade of value on trade stands and launches where people stay to play.

    Public liability cover of five million pounds comes with every booking, and the risk assessments go over before the lorry leaves Rotherham.

Space and surfaces

The cabinet takes up 10ft x 6ft and reaches 7ft high. Allow 12ft x 8ft of floor space in total under the same 7ft ceiling and two players can throw without leaning on each other.

It sites on artificial grass, grass, hard standing, concrete or wood chip, in a hall or out on a pitch. The one outdoor condition is cover overhead - our 3x3m pop-up gazebos were bought for exactly this job, so a market square and a hotel function room both work.

The £699 figure is the single two-player cabinet, plus VAT at 20%. Want the twin-cabinet four-wide rig? Say so with your date and we'll price the pair, and any minimum spend for your area comes back with the quote.

In a games row it sits happily next to the Batak Snowball Smash and Whack A Snowman indoors, or the Reindeer Racing table game when you want every age group racing something.

Christmas wonderlands and warehouse evenings

Ice-rink events and indoor wonderlands have taken it, and December regularly puts the cabinet on staff parties and exhibition floors across South Yorkshire, with the rest of the UK covered by our own lorries. Wrapped up in a gazebo it keeps its spot on a market pitch, and the attendant only has to clock the queue.

Running its own sound, lights and ball return means the evening never depends on whoever's minding the game - the noisiest part of it is the commentary. The cabinet is ours, serviced at the Rotherham warehouse and carried by our crew, with public liability cover of five million pounds on the booking.
